where are you going?               : ko-he-de yann-ne?

where are you from?                : o-ya ko-hen-da?(stress on ya)

 

where is this from?                : me-ka ko-hen-da?(stress on me)

 

where (to)                         : ko-ha-ta-da?

 

where is this bus to?              : me bas e-ka ko-ha-ta-da?(stress on

                                     me and ha)

 

where are you going to?            : o-ya ko-ha-ta-da yan-ne?(stress on

                                     ha)

Note:

"me bas e-ka ko-ha-ta-da?" can be said as "me bas e-ka ko-he-de

yan-ne?" as well.

"ko-he-de yan-ne" is tyipical greeting in Sri Lanka, which is equivalent

to "where are you going?" in English, however when used in greeting,

this means like "Hellow how are you?"

They useally greet each other by saying "ko-ho-mo-da , ko-he-de yan-ne?"

ko-ho-mo-da?" is equivalent to "How are you? in English.

When you see nice Sinhalese girl in Sri Lanka, you should say

"ko-ho-mo-da? ko-he-de yan-ne?"
